National Living Treasures

A major publishing venture – through the multi-national publisher Thames and Hudson – featuring the 100 Australian National Living Treasures in the book, ‘Remarkable’. Photographs by Michel Lawrence, written by Melinda Williams, the project was completed over two years, and included this promotional video also shot and produced by Michel Lawrence.

Treasures featured here, Racehorse trainer Gai Waterhouse, legendary athlete Herb Elliott and Australia’s favourite polymath, writer, teacher, lawyer, social activist, quiz champion and former politician, the one and only Barry Jones.

Note: Michel Lawrence’s portraits of Barry Jones have also appeared as the cover of his book, ‘What is to be Done’ and with the ABC Radio National’s programme What is to be done Now?

LIVING ETHICS

A series of educational videos for the Law Institute of Victoria. This one, featuring lawyer members, discussing an ethical dilemma.

Australian Defence Forces

A series of short films showcasing the benefits of the RPDE (Rapid Prototyping, Development and Evaluation) now Defence Innovation Hub.
Involving all three services, Airforce, Navy and Army, RPDE brought innovative thinking in super-short time-frames for use in dangerous theatres of conflict around the world. The remit was wide-ranging and brought a very different set of solutions to difficult problems.

INSIDE ART

Michel Lawrence was Director/Producer of the tv art program InsideArt. The program was launched on the public channel Channel 31 where it won the national public broadcasters award as Best National Arts Program in 2014. The program then moved across to Foxtel. Michel was also the program presenter and with his long-time interest in Australian art was able to comfortably chat in a relaxed and knowledgeable way with Australia’s leading arts practitioners. He also conducted numerous interviews with many leading visiting international artists. This is one of a number of promotional spots for the program at Foxtel..
